Sherry Obsessed

Sherry Obsessed- Acrylic Pour Artist

Sherry of Sherry Obsessed started learning the art of Acrylic Pouring in April of 2020. It was not intended to be a Covid hobby as she had been watching and researching about the art long before Covid hit the US. However, the virus gave her the time to actually start the hobby. The art form uses different techniques to get the various end results. But since it’s part of Fluid Art, you never know exactly what you’re going to get. Acrylic Pouring can also be done in different forms whether it is a canvas, a vase, a piece of jewelry, or something else. The creation time takes a long time from getting the pour the way you want, to drying and curing, to then varnishing the piece. At least 1 month from start to finish providing there are no problems along the way.

She has also taken an interest in making journals from recycled record album covers. As she got into making record clocks with the acrylic pouring, she didn’t want to throw away these neat album covers. A record shop owner gave her the idea and things were born from there.

Sherry has gotten into Pysanka, also known as Ukrainian Egg Decorating (although it’s done in many regions) and the plural form is Pysanky. The specific type she does is Batik which is a wax resistant method. After initial outlines are written on the egg, it is then dipped in a dye. Once dyed, the egg is dried and then everything you want to stay in that first color is waxed. Then the second dip in dye and so on. There are traditional designs and non-traditional. The eggs are delicate, so handle gently.

Her family moved to Sparta, NC when she was only 6 months old.  She lived in PA for 16 years when her parents divorced but moved back to the area in 2000.  The country life is where she feels at home the most.  While she loves the people of Sparta, she is very much a home-body with currently 8 cats.  Until she can have a studio, the cat hair does rule the home, including the art although she does what she can to minimize that.
