Supporting and Serving Artists
In 2003, Tom Berry came up with the idea of an artists cooperative and gathered a group of local artisans to join together to find a place to show and sell their art. D.W. Miles offered a free space in the Trojan Village Shopping Center, and our retail gallery was born. The Gallery offers a place for both serious artists seeking to earn income from their craft and those for whom art is more a form of self-expression. The Gallery grew out of the original space and moved next to the Alleghany County Courthouse. and more recently to its present location on South Main St. Since then, the membership has expanded to over 30 different artists, and a few of the original members are still with us.
Alleghany Arts & Crafts is a NC recognized 501(c)3 non-profit. Our mission is to support and serve artists and craftspeople by engaging the community through the sale of art and crafts and the promotion of education, exhibits, special programs and events.

Making Art Available
Our gallery is a co-op run by our artists. If you come to visit, you will be greeted by one of our members, who will be glad to answer any questions you have about the art or the artists. You will find our gallery full of unique hand-made items. As a non-profit, we keep our dues and commissions low to allow our artists to sell their work at reasonable prices and our customers the ability to afford beautiful art.

Christmas Arts & Craft Show
A holiday tradition in the High Country
Always held the first Saturday in December, the Christmas Arts & Crafts Show has become a tradition for both our artists and our customers. Dozens of regional artists display their work for sale at the Alleghany County Fairgrounds just north of Sparta, NC. Booth fees are kept low to allow smaller artists the ability to showcase their wares.
