Deb Oliver – Knitting and Upcycled Clothing
Deb Oliver has lived in Alleghany County since 1990. She became interested in the needle and fiber arts as a young woman and is now happy to dedicate more time in her retirement years to the creative arts. She owned and operated a yarn shop, in partnership, and has been a juried artist in Blowing Rock’s Art in the Park and the Valle Cruces Country Fair art festivals.
Most recently, she has become interested in the “up-cycling” movement, and is artfully incorporating traditional embroidery as well as the Japanese functional embroidery, sashiko, in creating the one-of-a-kind “wearable art” featured here. She is also happy to take custom orders for unique wearable art creations, including sashiko visible mending of denim jeans.
