Gary Lewis – Wood

The beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, in Sparta, NC is Gary’s home where he, his wife and son and I built their cabin home and a quiet life together on a mountain ridge.  After retiring as a corporate executive and more recently working overseas with an international Christian ministry, he found his way back to working with wood.  He truly enjoys taking local trees; sawing, drying, planing, etc. and creating functional items such as cutting boards, bow bread knives, table tops, porch swings, and cabinets, etc.

From the experiences of working in his father’s workshop and his exposure to woodworking in industrial arts classes during high school, he enjoys using hand tools and devices to create items both of use and beauty. As a man of faith, he is strengthened when he can spend time working with his hands as his Lord did in his father’s carpenter shop over two thousand years ago. It brings him joy being able create items that benefits the user.
