Kay Bodeen – Author
Kay is a native of Watauga County and a business education graduate of the University of North Carolina, Greensboro. After a career of 48 years in the Washington, DC area – the last 30 of which were for the founders of Marriott International and as administrator of their family foundation – she returned to her beloved North Carolina mountains, settling in Sparta, and began to pursue a lifetime dream of writing. Prior to that, her attempts had been limited to articles for local newspapers.
Most of her product has been more fact than fiction, drawing on her own experiences and on family stories passed down for over a century. She’s written two biographical fictions and a children’s book highlighting the antics of her two tuxedo cats, Polly and Ditto – in particular Ditto whom she found at the dump and who specializes in opening drawers and cabinets and unwinding toilet paper. She co-authored an imaginary story, “Earthquake on the Parkway,” with five other writers.
She is one of the founders of Alleghany Writers, providing a springboard for aspiring authors to improve our techniques and to open our minds to new directions.
